1.379 million cubic meters! Jiebeitong's temporary plugging and fracturing patented technology contributes to the birth of China's first million-cubic-meter shale gas well!
On March 6, good news came from the deep shale gas exploration in southern Sichuan, China. The Lu203 well completed a flow test, with a maximum wellhead pressure of 57.1 MPa when shut in, and a daily production of 1.379 million cubic meters during the test, making it the first shale gas well in China with a daily test production exceeding one million cubic meters.

Located in Leidacun Village, Lu County, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, the Lu203 well is a deep shale gas appraisal well. Its purpose is to evaluate the development potential of Longmaxi Formation shale gas resources in the Luzhou block at a burial depth of around 4000 meters, and to test advanced and rapid drilling technology and volume fracturing technology for deep shale gas horizontal wells. Through careful organization, a 1500-meter horizontal section was successfully drilled in shale formations with a temperature exceeding 140℃, achieving a 100% rate of encountering high-quality reservoirs and a 100% wellbore quality acceptance rate.

This well, combining the geological and engineering characteristics of deep shale gas in southern Sichuan, uses a fracturing technology of “closely spaced fracturing + high-strength proppant + temporary plugging and turning” (Jiebeitong Company's patented technology), successfully achieving volume transformation of shale reservoirs with a burial depth of nearly 4000 meters, fracture pressure exceeding 110 MPa, horizontal stress difference exceeding 20 MPa, and relatively well-developed micro-fractures.

Construction of this well began on December 21, 2018, and fracturing was completed on January 8, 2019. The Jiebeitong Company technical team optimized the temporary plugging and fracturing scheme based on the characteristics of the reservoir. During the on-site construction, the team closely combined micro-seismic monitoring data and adjusted the temporary plugging and fracturing parameters in real time to ensure the effectiveness of the construction. After the temporary plugging agent entered the formation, the pressure increased by 5-14.5 MPa, and the turning was obvious; micro-seismic monitoring showed the opening of new fractures, effectively overcoming the two-way high stress difference, increasing the complexity of the fractures, and significantly increasing the stimulated reservoir volume (SRV).

Recently, wells such as China Petroleum’s Z202-H1, Huang202, and Lu203 have all used the “closely spaced fracturing + high-strength proppant + temporary plugging and turning” fracturing technology and have successively achieved high gas production, marking the gradual maturity of deep shale gas exploration and development technology in southern Sichuan. This lays a solid foundation for the effective utilization of deep shale gas resources, which account for more than 86% of the region, and further strengthens confidence in achieving the long-term development planning goals for shale gas in southern Sichuan.
